Jonathan Michael Schatz Chapter

Jonathan Schatz was an 18-year-old member of Northwestern University's Zeta Beta Tau Fraternity when he was diagnosed with leukemia in 1990. He didn't tell his fraternity brothers about his illness until he asked for their help organizing a bone marrow drive. However, Jonathan did not organize the drive for himself, but for three-year-old Anna Green from Chicago, who he heard had leukemia and needed a bone marrow transplant. He rallied other fraternities and sororities on Northwestern's campus and brought out thousands of people to be registered.

Sadly, Jonathan succumbed to leukemia the following year. The members of Zeta Beta Tau at Northwestern joined the Leukemia Research Foundation as a chapter, and have held annual fundraising events on campus ever since. They have raised more than $100K since 1992.
