A La Vida Chapter
Frank Martinez beat leukemia. Twice. He was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia in 1994 when his wife was five months pregnant. After three rounds of heavy chemotherapy, he went into remission but relapsed within months.
His second course of treatment included experimental drug therapy, more chemotherapy, full-body radiation (twice daily), and finally, a transplant of his own irradiated bone marrow.
In 2002, Frank and his family formed the A La Vida Chapter, which means "To Life," and from 2006 to 2009, he served as the president of the Leukemia Research Foundation Board of Directors.
Today, Frank is in remission.
